Correctional Museum

The NSW State Correctional Museum, located on Vale Street adjacent to Cooma Gaol, offers insights into over 200 years of penal history in New South Wales. Its exhibits feature artifacts such as manacles, leg irons, clothing, weapons, escape devices, and visual documentation related to punishment and crime. A notable permanent exhibit, 'Caring for the Incarcerated,' delves into the history of the NSW prison medical service.

Snowy Hydro Discovery

The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre in Cooma offers an engaging experience for visitors to learn about the Snowy Mountains Scheme's history, current operations, and future developments. The centre features a state-of-the-art immersive theatre with a 14-meter-wide screen and floor projections, providing virtual flyovers of the Snowy Mountains and the Snowy Scheme. 

Visitors can explore real-time displays showcasing Snowy Hydro's current operations, learn about the Snowy 2.0 pumped-hydro expansion project, and view archival photos and exhibits detailing life during the construction era from 1949 to 1974.

Yarrangobilly 

The Yarrangobilly area, nestled between Tumut and Cooma in northern Kosciuszko National Park, offers a range of natural attractions and activities for visitors.

The region is renowned for its limestone caves, with six show caves accessible to the public. Visitors can embark on self-guided tours of South Glory Cave or join guided tours of other caves, such as the wheelchair-accessible Jillabenan Cave and Jersey Cave, known for its rare black flowstones.

A highlight of the area is the outdoor thermal pool, maintained at a constant 27ºC year-round. Fed by a natural spring, the pool provides a relaxing experience amidst the natural surroundings.

Mount Gladstone Lookup 

Mount Gladstone, located less than four kilometers from Cooma, spans 125 hectares of native bushland. The lookout offers panoramic views of the Monaro Plains, Cooma township, and the Snowy Mountains. Visitors can enjoy walking and biking trails, as well as picnic facilities.

The area also hosts events like the Mt Gladstone Hill Climb, organized by the Cooma Monaro Historic Automobile Club, where participants can test their driving skills.

For mountain biking enthusiasts, Snowy MTB Shuttles provides shuttle services to the trails at Mount Gladstone.
